Quick verdict
Choose a washable fabric liner if you prefer its feel and will follow a regular laundry routine. Choose a suitable waterproof PEVA liner when you prefer a wipe-clean sheet. Keep a sound liner that already fits and keeps water inside your shower.
Research-based buying guide. Checked October 17, 2026. We have not tested these products hands-on. Manufacturer specifications, attributed external tests, and our buying judgments are distinguished below.

Which choice fits your routine?
| Choice | Best reason to choose it | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Fabric liner | Soft drape and machine-washable models | Water-repellent does not mean every fabric is waterproof |
| PEVA liner | A waterproof sheet with suitable care | Cleaning directions vary; do not assume machine washing |
| Keep your liner | It is intact, correctly sized, and working | Changing material may not solve poor placement |
Compare actual liners, not the outer curtain
Zenna Home lists PEVA, fabric, and waterproof-fabric liners as separate categories. The linked fabric example is sold as Zenna Home in the U.S. and Maytex in Canada. Its listings describe a 70-by-72-inch polyester microfiber liner, a weighted hem, and machine washing. It is described as water repellent.
That wording matters. A decorative polyester outer curtain is not automatically a working liner, and a water-repellent fabric should not be assumed to offer the same barrier as every waterproof product. Choose a liner explicitly intended for the job and follow its placement instructions.
Check width, drop, and your shower arrangement
Measure from the hanging position to the intended lower edge and across the opening. Leave the coverage and clearance the manufacturer requires. A familiar “standard” size is only a starting point: tall rods, stalls, and wider tubs can need another format.
Also check the number and type of hanging holes against your hooks and whether the liner works with a separate outer curtain. A new material cannot fix a liner hanging on the wrong side of the tub or a size that leaves a gap. Check the setup before deciding replacement is necessary.
Choose the care routine you will actually follow
A machine-washable fabric model makes sense if you are willing to take it down, wash it as directed, and let it dry properly. For PEVA, use the exact product’s instructions; many wipe-clean sheets have different care requirements from fabric. Do not copy a hot wash or dryer setting from another liner.
Keep the liner spread as directed so it can dry between showers, and address visible buildup with the approved cleaning method. We have not measured drying time or mould resistance. Neither a fabric upgrade nor a label claim removes the need to maintain the bathroom and liner.
When paying for fabric is worthwhile
Buy the fabric example when the softer drape and washable format solve an annoyance with your current liner. Skip it when you specifically need a waterproof barrier that the exact listing does not establish, or when taking the liner down for laundry would be impractical.
Our verdict favours the format you will clean and fit correctly. Keep an intact existing liner if it already works. When comparing prices, consider expected care effort and actual condition rather than assuming an inexpensive liner must be discarded on a fixed schedule.
Buying in the United States or Canada
Compare one liner with one liner of the correct dimensions. Hooks, outer curtains, multipacks, and different weights can change the apparent price difference. No fixed U.S. price here should be treated as a Canadian quote.
Use the button for your country and compare the exact model, size, included parts, seller, delivered price, and return terms before ordering. U.S. and Canadian offers can differ. Check regional warranty eligibility with the manufacturer or seller, especially for imported marketplace offers; a brand guarantee does not establish identical coverage from every seller.
Questions before buying
Are all polyester curtains suitable as liners?
No. Buy a product identified for liner use and follow its water-resistance and placement guidance.
Is the Canadian Maytex listing a different size?
The linked offers both state 70 by 72 inches, but verify the selected option and supplied label before ordering.
