Is the OXO Compact Cold Brew Coffee Maker Worth It for One or Two?

Quick verdict

Choose the OXO Compact Cold Brew Coffee Maker when you regularly want a modest batch of concentrate and a dedicated draining carafe. Keep a suitable jar-and-filter routine if it already works easily. Skip this small brewer if your household needs large quantities or you want coffee immediately rather than an overnight preparation.

Which option fits your routine?

Choice Choose it for Tradeoff

Suitable existing jar and filter Trying cold brew without another dedicated brewer Filtering and transfer may be less convenient
Larger cold brewer A household that uses more concentrate More working, fridge and washing space

The 24-ounce number describes the brewing container

OXO lists a 24-ounce brewing container for model 11237500. That should not be read as 24 ounces of finished concentrate or a fixed number of full drinking mugs. Grounds, retained water and your serving dilution all affect the practical amount you use.

Work backwards from your actual routine: how many drinks you want between batches and how much concentrate goes into each. A small household may prefer modest batches, while several daily coffee drinkers can quickly outgrow a compact container.

Buy for overnight brewing, not instant results

OXO specifies a 12-to-24-hour brewing period on the counter or in the fridge, following its instructions. The perforated top distributes the added water, and the brewer drains when placed on its matching glass carafe.

That arrangement is convenient if you plan ahead. It is the wrong purchase if the main problem is wanting a drink in a few minutes. Hot-brewed coffee served over ice or a different rapid method is a separate workflow; the names are not interchangeable.

Compact storage has more than one footprint

The brewing container and carafe nest when stored, but brewing, draining and refrigerated storage are different arrangements. Measure the actual location you plan to use and allow room to handle the container without bumping nearby shelves.

A small footprint is most valuable when the vessel also fits your hand and cleaning access. Check how you will lift and pour the carafe and where the other parts will sit while it is in the fridge. Neat empty storage does not settle the whole-space question.

What current outside testing says

Serious Eats’ current cold-brewer guide includes the OXO as an editor’s compact favourite and likes its draining arrangement, but flags limited batch size for heavier-use households. That supports a small-batch recommendation rather than a claim that compact is best for everyone.

Those are attributed external findings, not our tasting results. We have not compared flavour, filtration or week-long storage. Choose capacity and workflow first; coffee choice and recipe still influence whether you enjoy the drink.

The reusable filter still needs cleaning

OXO supplies a reusable stainless-steel mesh filter and a glass carafe with a cork stopper and silicone seal. Reuse avoids assuming a fresh paper filter is required for every basic cycle, but it does not remove the task of clearing grounds and cleaning the parts.

Follow the exact manual for assembly, component care, concentrate preparation and storage. Do not infer that the entire brewer shares a single dishwasher instruction. We have not tested clogging, seal life, breakage resistance or how different grind sizes change draining time.

Who should buy—and our verdict

Buy the OXO for recurring small batches when a fitted drain-and-carafe system improves a process you already want to do. Skip it if you mainly need large batches, rarely make cold brew or have a jar-and-filter method you like.

Our verdict is a useful compact convenience, with limited batch size as its main compromise. It is not a coffee machine that chills a drink on demand. Compare the complete package, local replacement support and delivered cost before giving it fridge and cupboard space.
