The rack is the main functional difference
Brabantia’s silicone mat provides ribs and a rim, but no dedicated plate slots. Umbra UDry combines a microfiber mat with a removable plastic rack. That rack can make the purchase more useful if you routinely need to stand plates rather than lay everything flat.
Think about your normal hand-washed items: two mugs and a pan are a different load from six plates and wine glasses. We have not tested these products’ dish stability or drying speed. Choose a design that supports the actual shapes you wash.
Water is held in different ways
The silicone mat keeps water on a non-absorbent surface. The fabric in UDry absorbs drips. Neither process makes the water disappear immediately. Empty or dry the silicone mat as needed, and hang or spread the fabric so it can dry thoroughly.
Check underneath after a normal dishwashing session. A product that looks tidy on top can still leave moisture against the counter. Follow your countertop’s care guidance and do not store either product wet just to clear the kitchen quickly.
Measure the drying area and the sink edge

Both can be stored away, but fabric should dry before folding. We have not measured long-term staining, odour or material wear. If you dislike laundering another kitchen textile, silicone has a clearer advantage; if plate support is essential, the rack can justify that extra routine.
